![]() ![]() Competition RequirementsĮnrolled as a collegiate music major between 18 to 26 years old on the day of the competition. Past winners of SAI-Pasadena Alumnae Music Scholarship Awards are not eligible to apply. She has performed in the 2022 edition of ChamberFest at CSUN and participated in both chamber and solo violin masterclasses conducted by Martin Chalifour, Bernadine Blaha, Niv Ashkenazi, Genevieve Lee, Wendy Richman, Aperture Duo, Sitkovetsky Trio, Lindsay Deutsch, and Pamela Frank.Īpplicant must be currently enrolled as a music major at a college or university, a college-level music conservatory, or a community college in Southern California. Melanie is also currently First Violin in the CSUN Honors String Quartet, under the guidance of the group’s director, Diane Roscetti. Melanie is currently in her final year as an undergraduate at California State University Northridge under the tutelage of Lorenz Gamma and has since received the 2021-2022 Dean’s Award for Most Outstanding Junior, the award for Most Outstanding Student in Strings, and the Bayramian Foundation scholarship. Performing in community services has also been one of Melanie’s favorite past times, as she has participated in some including the Make-A-Wish Ball Malaysia 2018 and the SPCA fund raising concert (A Concert for Kindness) 2019. Melanie has also won several prizes in the Euroasia Strings Competition, National Tainan Music Competition (Taiwan), and of recent, is a winner of the 2023 CSUN Concerto Competition and the 2023 Music Scholarship Competition by the Sigma Alpha Iota Pasadena Alumnae Chapter. She has since performed with various orchestras and string ensembles in her home country, including the Selangor Symphony Orchestra and Philharmonia KL. Terry has led selected artists from UCLA’s vocal department in order to premiere “El Circo Anahuac: An Aztec Opera” by David Reyes.Ī native of Selangor, Malaysia, Melanie first started learning the violin at the age of 5 and later picked up the cello and viola at the ages of 11 and 18 respectively. In addition to his involvement in western classical music, he also premiered many compositions by composers studying under Richard Danielpour and Ian Krouse across UCLA’s famous concert venues, Schoenberg Hall and Lani Hall. ![]() Furthermore, his active involvement as a chamber musician both within and outside of the university community has resulted in his own chamber group composed of the clarinet, cello, and piano. Through these masterclasses, he has refined his soloistic capabilities and has had the opportunity to perform as part of UCLA’s 2022 Chancellor’s Recital. ![]() Terry has participated in several masterclasses with distinguished professors such as Shuai Wang, Frederic Chiu, and Jerome Lowenthal from Juilliard. He is currently studying under the tutelage of Professor Daivd Kaplan at UCLA, where he is an active participant of the Gluck Fellowship and recipient of the Emil Danenberg and Beatrice Zelkin Scholarship. Terry Hsu, born in Taiwan, started playing the piano independently at the age of 5 then started formally studying under a private instructor, Alice Yin-Wei Lin, the following year. ![]()
